Avatar Piercing Pack vol.1
This is a collection of 70 piercings that are designed and optimized for use in VRChat (for PC and Quest), but can they be used for any game dev or 3D art if that's what you're into.
If you're an avatar creator or somebody who wants to buy a single pack of drag and drop piercings that will fit any model, this is a great starting point. Any relevant assets have compatibility blendshapes / shape keys that ensure your piercing always looks great, regardless of the base model you use.
10 of these assets are rigged, meaning that you can use dynamic bones / phys-bones on them for a bit more movement and character if you'd like. Most of the assets have medium and low poly count versions, as well as various auxiliary material slots, etc, giving you a ton of options and control over how they look.
And as an added bonus most of these double as pins / badges if that's something that interests you.
Here's what the compatibility blend shapes look like on a few piercings.
This pack includes
-> a .Fbx file with each asset as its own object, so that you can easily try out different piercings and duplicate them onto your model as necessary.
-> a Unity package, containing each asset as its own FBX as well as a master object (like above), basic shaders, phys-bones and a short, easy to follow set of instructions.
-> a .Blend file containing all the models + rigs and some extra goodies (see below)
-> a tutorial with super easy to follow instructions for beginners, as well as additional tips and tricks for people who enjoy working with unity and blender.
I ask that you do not redistribute or sell anything in this file unless both parties have purchased this asset, if the asset is unmodified and credit is given when asked, use for commissions is completely fine. I've intentionally priced this pack super low to make these as accessible as possible. You are more than welcome to use these in games, animations and stuff outside of Social VR, but please reach out to me and let me know beforehand.
But...
As a final note, Modifying these assets is encouraged! Feel free to use these however you would like, I'd love to see how everything looks on your model, especially if you customize it at all, so feel free to @dullyarpus on twitter with pictures and I'll likely re-tweet or respond.
The .blend file includes a collection labelled "Extra Stuff" containing everything you need to make your own custom piercings and assets, including rigs, pins with shape keys, etc.
Additional Info / Nerd Stuff
All of the piercings in this pack are loosely inspired by stuff that you would find at hot topic, if people enjoy these assets, I'd love to release themed accessory packs (fantasy, sci-fi, horror, etc). If you have any ideas or suggestions, DM me or tweet at me on twitter! @dullyarpus
Performance / Stats ->
Some piercings have low and medium poly variants, and the average number of vertices per model in this pack is around 170, with the highest being 529.
The total vertex count for the entire pack is 11,761, and the total number of triangles is 22,085.
Materials ->
Some piercings have variants with different types of auxiliary material slots, and some use only a single material. If you plan on adding an absurd number of piercings, try to combine them with your avatars mesh in blender, as this caps the maximum number of material slots you can add with all of these piercings at 3.
Anything using the "Gem" material slot is shaded to look more like a gem, while the "Accent" Slot is smoother and was made with metals, plastics and emissives in mind, but in reality, its all interchangeable, get creative!
UV's ->
The models have been unwrapped with cube projection, so UV's do exist! However they are not designed to be used for texturing. Detail overlay textures / noise overlays are a great option and highly encouraged for stuff like this if you desire a less cartoony look (Poiyomi does this and it helps a ton with performance and download size).
Here's what I threw together on my model just to showcase a few.
A unity package that allows you to drag and drop assets onto your avatar, a blend file, an fbx file and a simple, easy tutorial / instructions for beginners.
